Back home & 23 weeks

We’re officially back home. This vacation has been filled with so many wonderful memories, magic, and happiness. I really can’t believe it’s all over. My family and I had an amazing time here in Orlando.

This last Thursday marked the official beginning of week 23! I can’t believe I’m 23 weeks pregnant already, the time has gone so quickly. This week at Disneyworld I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of emotions. I felt extremely overjoyed, blessed, & grateful!

However; like every first time mom, I started thinking about the new chapter unfolding before me and was overwhelmed at the thought of my new responsibilities as a mom. I started thinking about all the things needed to be accomplished before our baby arrives, and then the anxiety started to kick in. I’m trying to remind myself to take it one day at a time, to make small checklist and not over analyze the small details. I also need to let go of control because I know I have little control over what can happen. I have faith and hope in God that He will guide my husband & I down the right path as new parents. I also know I have been blessed to be surrounded by a loving family that continues to show us & our growing family love and support. I can’t wait to bring our baby to Walt Disneyworld one day, and the many other adventures we will have as a family. We had the best time at WDW, but I know the next time we come out here it’ll be extra special sharing that time with our baby girl

Side note: we didn’t enact the midday break, but with a mid week break from the parks and tons of sleep throughout the trip I was able to easily get through the last two days at WDW strong!

Surviving Disneyworld while pregnant

At 23 weeks pregnant I couldn’t be more proud of how I handled myself over the last 2 days of park hopping. I’d like to share some tried and tested tips that have helped me survive the last two days at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Day 1-Animal Kingdom
Before I left home I researched on the Disney boards to see what rides I would be restricted from riding. The consensus seemed to agree AK park was the least pregnant friendly amongst the other WDW.

So I approached this day as an opportunity to really slow down and enjoy the natural surroundings of AK. I met with family around 9:30, a big group of about 15 people and as the day went on we branched out and discovered our own path to AK.

Here are my tips from this day-
Carefully select the rides you ride. Throughout all parks at Disney they give fair warning on what rides aren’t safe for pregnant women. Take those warnings seriously! No ride is worth risking the health & safety of your baby. At AK I didn’t ride anything.

Find alternatives to rides.

Disney has put in an insane amount of work in creating world-class, live shows and parades. My favorite at AK is the Festival of the Lion King!

Play carnival games & enjoy sweet treats. My husband and I had the opportunity to take my adorable niece around DinoLand while her mom (my sis) & dad enjoyed some big kid rides. We also fed her Mickey ice cream. She absolutely loved it! And we did too! We won her 4 new stuffed animals or “new friends” as she likes to call them!

Slow down, and enjoy your surroundings. At AK they offer many walking trails through animal exhibits. Take time to enjoy the beauty of nature displayed at this park.

Take mid-day breaks. I only sat during 2 shows and 2 meal breaks for a short time each. Being on your feet for almost 10 hours for anyone can be a challenge for any adult, but when you’re pregnant it can take a complete toll on your body. Take the time to return back to your hotel for a nap and to refresh yourself.

Elevate your feet to let your body fully relax: I elevated my legs on a stack of pillows and let my body relax after a nice cold shower.

Day 2: Magic Kingdom
After running on only 5-6 hours of sleep for the last three nights we decided to take the opportunity to sleep 8 hours last night. It felt amazing!

We arrived at the park at 9:30 am, and met up with family. We took off towards fantasy land and ran around non-stop until hunger struck. We stopped at the new Gaston’s tavern-a cute little quick service area. We enjoyed a pork shank that was to-die-for! Fall off the bone amazing! Then we were off again. Around 3, I needed a break.

Here are my tips-
Run on your own schedule: If you keep sacrificing sleep for park time you put you and your baby’s health and well being at risk. You’ll be too tired to truly enjoy the magic that is Disney. It’s ok to fall behind your group, you can catch up later.

Eat & drink: make sure you are eating enough food, we probably stopped and ate 6 times throughout the day. Stay hydrated, I brought a 100ml hydration pack by Dakine and make sure to finish it all by the end of the day. In the morning I fill it up at our hotel for free. It’ll save you at least $50 on water a day. Yes, at the parks they charge $3 or so for a bottle of water! Bring your own!

Take advantage to rest in the AC buildings. Listen to your body, if you need to stop, stop! Florida heat+tons of walking+being pregnant=a high possibility of overheating, dehydration, or much worse!

Rest frequently for long periods of time throughout the day. Don’t hesitate to just rest your feet on an empty bench for 30-40 minutes. I took a lot of moments to just sit.
Unlike day one, where I only sat during the shows and meals.

My favorite rest break was at a little garden area across the castle during the Celebrate a Dream parade with my mom & hubby! We were able to catch views of the parade while letting our feet breath!

Accept the fact that you can’t keep up with everyone else! This lesson was one I learned from my mom, and It took me a couple days to come to terms with this reality but I’m still learning to adjust to my pregnant body.

We stayed at the park till 7, and then went back to our hotel for the rest of the night. I still didn’t learn from my own tips from day 1 to take a mid day break. I promised myself and my husband last night that we would enact this as a rule. For the other two park days we will leave by 3:30 for a midday break! I’ll keep you all posted to see how it goes!

We are back!

My husband and I are back at Disneyworld! The happiest place on Earth!

On May 5th my sweet cousin married the love of his life, and I’m so glad we were able to be here to witness this happy union!

We’re on day two of Disney magic fun. Our days have been packed! Tons of walking, eating, and pictures!

Staying fit in Paradise

While the rest of the nation is getting sun and heat, it’s pouring here in Western WA. This makes me even more anxious to go on vacation, and enjoy an actual summer. I read this article on FitSugar (one of my favorite fit blogs) and it inspired me to share some activities I can’t wait to do while enjoying paradise-

THE IMPORTANCE OF VACATION!

I’ll be going on vacation in a matter of days! I’m super excited for this trip. I’ll be celebrating my 25th birthday in Hawaii with my best friend. We’ve planned-shopping, eating, hiking, spa time, manicures and pedicures, but most importantly relaxation! The ultimate girls trip!

This is my first trip solo, without my husband. I felt guilty at first knowing I’ll be in paradise without him, but he encouraged me, and he told me it was imperative that I go. We discussed the importance of this vacation; and he emphasized a few key points-

  • My dedication to my weight loss journey has taken an incredible amount of time, dedication, and relentless hard work. I need a break.
  • My day is tightly scheduled, and I’m constantly focusing on other people. I need time for myself to be able to unwind and relax.
  • Today he sent me an article from PSN, on the importance of spending time with girlfriends. It said, “Failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with other humans is as dangerous to our physical health as smoking!” . This really hit home for me. I’ve spent a lot of time isolated from friends because I couldn’t eat out. I was so focused on reaching my weight loss goal; I felt one meal was going to derail my process.  I now realize one meal won’t derail me. I must keep a balance between-work, family, friends, working out, and eating healthy, but most importantly my happiness.

I also heard a study on the radio that discussed how, as women it’s hard for us to take solo trips (without our significant other or family), but it’s essential to our overall well-being. This trip is definitely more important than I realized. I can’t wait to see my best friend. I can’t wait to come back home feeling refreshed, relaxed, and to spend time with my family. What I’ve learned also is I need to reconnect with friends back at home also.

Eating healthy at Disneyworld’s Hollywood Studios-Research phase 5

Hollywood Studios is actually our first park of the week! We will be engulfed in Star Wars Mania! I’m looking forward to all the events, shows, and special guests that will be attending specifically for this weekend. This will be the first time I’ve gone to Disneyworld during Star Wars weekend & I can’t wait to experience the Hoopla! My sister has expressed that this will also be our longest day, we will be leaving the hotel at 6:30 AM & the park will be open until 10:00 PM. I’m figuring we’ll be eating two lunches so I wanted to select a few more options. It will also be an event filled day, we needed quick bites for lunch & dinner!

Ok readers, this is the last post of eating healthy at Disneyworld research. We will be leaving for Disneyworld in; I can’t believe it, less than 2 days! I’m beyond excited! Eating healthy at Disneyworld-Research phase 1

I’ve been doing a TON of research on eating healthy at Disneyworld, because our trip is less than 4 weeks away. The number one tip/advice I have found when it comes to eating healthy at Disneyworld is to prepare to have plenty of options.

I plan to research each parks dining options and find at least 3 alternatives for lunch & dinner. We plan to eat breakfast at our timeshare and buy snacks at Costco when we arrive to save time & money. I’ve looked at the below blogs, with extremely insightful information.

My plan is to post my perspective meals I can’t wait to try once I’m at Disneyworld per park that would be a healthy, and satisfying option. Researching phase 1 of many?

Happy May 1st everyone! I can’t believe how fast time flies!

Happy First Day of Spring!

Happy first day of Spring everyone! When I think of Spring, I automatically associate it with sun and warmth! Unfortunately, the western side of WA state didn’t make the transition out of winter yet. We’re enjoying the long days of  gray clouds, rainstorms, and gloom. I need to get out of here and enjoy somewhere warm and sunny!

The lack of natural vitamin D & C is making me feel sad, but it is also more motivation to start the vacation planning process. This year I also want to cross things off my bucket list!

Previous to my weightloss journey, I would always plan vacations centered around eating,A LOT, and being lazy. Don’t get me wrong, I do love to enjoy local cuisine. But, now when I look for destinations, I want to make sure the emphasis is making sure it will be beneficial for my mind, body, and soul.

Our first vacation will be around the end of April. I want to go to Napa Valley, CA. I feel this would be the best option for us as a quick weekend getaway. My husband and I have been wanting to go for years, but haven’t had the opportunity. Now, we’re set on making this trip happen, even just for a weekend. We both really need this! We want this to be our time to relax & rejuvenate as we enjoy the local wine, food, and walks outside, while soaking up some sunshine! A quick break from our strenuous schedules.

Does anyone have any hotel suggestions? We’d like to be in the center of town, closest to  the wineries. I’ve been looking on Groupon & Living Social for deals, but I haven’t seen any for Napa. Maybe I missed it?

Results…a week later

I’m back from another week long hiatus of not blogging. I know I need to get better, but I’m working on it. Work has been super crazy this week! Anyways…enough of the excuses, I’m ready to share some amazing results!

I weighed in on February 7, 2012 at 162lbs.

I then took a vacation on February 9- February 13. Please keep this in mind, I obviously ate like crazy, and probably gained more from February 7th. I didn’t weigh myself when I came back, simply because I was too scared. I played catch up  like no other, stayed focused on my goals, and worked hard for the below results!

On March 1, 2012 I weighed 160! A total weight loss of 2lbs!

The biggest inches lost-

  • Hip-Lost a total of 1 inch
  • Upper thigh- Lost .5 inch

The most important part of my weigh in was finding out I gained .5 lbs of muscle, and the remaining weight I lost was all fat! My body composition changed without compromising my strength.

My new goal is 157lbs or less by 3/29! Wish me luck!

Remember; it doesn’t matter what the scale reads, but just think of how much better you will feel when you continue to get stronger, and lift more than you could of ever imagined! Set small goals, and they become more achievable. When you return home from vacation, don’t get stuck on what you wish you could have done, but continue to move forward, and every day will bring you closer to your goal!

Playing catch up!

The past 2 weeks have honestly been a blur. When I returned home from Las Vegas, I had a lot of catching up to do. I didn’t workout for 2 days while on vacation, so I had to workout Saturday (as scheduled) & Sunday (usually my rest day). And of course I had to face the inevitable doom of unpacking, and endless laundry to do, OK I lie, my husband did most of it. We work on the organizing together, and well that’s been on the back burner forever, and things have been piling up! It’s been an overwhelming transition. My blog has been on hold slightly. I wanted to update my readers on some changes I’ve made in the last 2 weeks that helped make the transition from vacation mode to weightloss-

  • Decreased my calorie intake from 1900 to 1400
  • Focused on a low-fat diet, and to include balanced portions of carbohydrates and protein
  • Switched to tilapia for lunch (you can season tilapia in a multiple of ways, my newest flavor obsession is Mrs. Dash salt free Fiesta blend!).
  • If I eat beef, it’s at night (nothing wrong with beef, just focus on using leaner cuts like flank!)
  • Created a new balanced routine

Here is my new routine in detail-

  • MONDAY STRENGTH TRAINING: Arms & shoulders

CARDIO: High intensity interval training for 30 minutes (5 minute warm up & 5 minute cool down)

  • TUESDAY STRENGTH TRAINING: Legs

CARDIO: 2 times a day-steady pace at 3.4 mph, and an incline of 7.0 for 40 minutes (5 minute cool down

  • WEDNESDAY- CARDIO: 2 times a day-steady pace at 3.4 mph, and an incline of 7.0 for 40 minutes (5 minute cool down
  • THURSDAY- STRENGTH TRAINING: Chest & Arms

CARDIO: High intensity interval training for 30 minutes (5 minute warm up & 5 minute cool down)

  • FRIDAYSTRENGTH TRAINING: Legs

CARDIO: 2 times a day-steady pace at 3.4 mph, and an incline of 7.0 for 40 minutes (5 minute cool down

I absolutely love my updated routine. Adding high intensity interval training allows me to sleep in an extra hour Monday & Thursday. I’ve seen great improvement overall. Who doesn’t love an extra hour of sleep!
